A. Overview                                    Somba Opu

Somba Opu built by the Sultan of Gowa to-IX named Daeng Matanre Karaeng Tumapa'risi 'Kallonna in 1525. In the mid-16th century, the fort was a trading center and port spices visited by foreign traders from Asia and Europe. On June 24, 1669, the fort was occupied by the VOC and then crushed into submerged by tidal waves. In the 1980s, the fort was rediscovered by a number of scientists. In 1990, the ruined castle building reconstructed so that it looks more beautiful. Now, Somba Opu become a tourist attraction which is very interesting, namely as a historic museum.B. Feature
Somba Opu built of clay and egg whites instead of cement. In arsitekturial, this castle-shaped square, with a length of about 2 miles, 7 to 8 meters high, and the extent of about 1,500 hectares. The entire building is lined with a wall of the fort is quite thick.
